The Spread Eagle is a crucial element in figure skating, demanding turnout and a sense of balance. We've prepared a series of exercises to help you master this element, even if you're training at home. Our sessions are conducted as online lessons via Zoom.
Spread Eagle Training Program:
Hip Joint Warm-up. We start with the "butterfly" exercise to prepare your hip joints for work. This increases range of motion and reduces the risk of injury.
"Frog pose" lying face down. Continue developing your hip joints in a prone position. This exercise aims for a deep stretch of the adductor muscles.
Control and maintaining turnout. We pay special attention to turnout of the legs. Practice holding the correct position for as long as possible. This is a key aspect for a stable and beautiful Spread Eagle.
Dynamic Spread Eagle. We move on to dynamic execution of the element: squats with open knees and a tucked-forward pelvis. Repeat the "sit-stand" movements, maintaining correct body posture. This exercise develops the strength and control needed to perform the Spread Eagle on ice.
After completing these exercises, you'll be ready to try the Spread Eagle directly on the ice.
Remember: every missed training day is a lost opportunity. Don't stop working on yourself!
