Mastering the Flip Jump: The Ultimate Wall Drill for Clean Technique

The Flip Jump relies heavily on a precise inside edge take-off and perfect timing with the toe pick. For many skaters, maintaining that edge while reaching back for the vault is the hardest part.

In this tutorial, Elizaveta breaks down the jump using a simple yet highly effective drill at the boards. This method removes the fear of falling and allows skaters of all ages—from kids to adults—to focus entirely on the mechanics of the take-off.

Key Technical Benefits:

Edge Control: The wall provides stability, allowing you to feel and lock the correct inside edge on the skating foot without wobbling.

Toe Pick Placement: You will learn exactly where to place the toe pick behind you to create maximum lift, rather than just rotation.

Body Alignment: Using the boards helps keep your shoulders and hips square, preventing the common mistake of pre-rotating the upper body.

Coach's Tip: Focus on the rhythm of the knee bend. Your skating knee must be deeply bent as you reach back with the free leg. Do not rush. Accuracy at the wall leads to confidence in the center of the ice.

Give this exercise a try during your next session. It is a fundamental drill for building consistent and high jumps.
