Sheyla Belova – ISU Technical Coach: Spins & Steps
Sheyla Belova is the technical strategist of Ryabinin Camps. She possesses deep knowledge of the ISU judging system and specializes in helping athletes maximize the point value of every element.
Sheyla is a versatile coach who works effectively with children (thanks to her gentle pedagogical approach) and adult amateurs, who appreciate her logical and detailed explanations of biomechanics.
Levels & ISU Rules
Sheyla understands exactly why judges award Level 2 instead of Level 4 and knows how to fix it. She helps athletes upgrade their programs to increase their Technical Element Score (TES).
Technical Focus:
- Spins: Selecting specific "features" (edge changes, difficult variations) to achieve Level 4. Improving centering and velocity.
- Step Sequences: Constructing step sequences with the required turns (twizzles, choctaws, rockers) to maximize levels.
- Element Validity: Correcting technical flaws to avoid negative GOE (Grade of Execution).
Adult Figure Skating
Sheyla is a top-tier coach for Adult Skaters. Adults need to understand the logic and mechanics behind the movement, and Sheyla excels at explaining this.
For Adult Students:
- Conscious Skating: Teaching edge control through body awareness.
- Safety: Adapting technique to fit adult physiology.
- Progression: From first steps on ice to competitive programs and complex spins.
Working with Kids
Despite her technical precision, Sheyla connects easily with young children. She translates complex rules into simple language, turning technical drills into engaging challenges.
"Figure skating is math on ice. I teach athletes not just to skate a program, but to understand the value of every movement to win by the rules." — Sheyla Belova
