Core Training for Skaters: Abs, Back, Balance (Online)

Your Axis of Rotation & Stability

The Core is the flight control center for a figure skater. During a jump, the core muscles hold the body in a tight line (Air Position), preventing centrifugal force from breaking the axis. If your center is weak, you will wobble in the air and fall on landings. In this class, we specifically target deep stabilizer muscles, creating an "iron corset" for complex elements.

Curriculum: From Hollow Body to Axis Hold

Tight Air Position: Exercises holding the "Hollow Body" position, mimicking the exact posture needed in the air.

Statics & Stability: Planks and balance holds to control the body during edge changes and landings.

Obliques & Twists: Working the muscles responsible for the quick rotation snap and the landing check.

Healthy Lower Back: Strengthening deep back muscles to protect the spine from compression forces upon impact.

How Core Affects Scores (GOE)?

Saving Jumps: A strong core allows you to "save" a jump even if the take-off was tilted. You can hold the landing without touching the ice with your hands.

Spin Centering: To prevent a spin from traveling across the ice, abdominal and back muscles must work like a vise.

Lines: Beautiful posture is impossible without a strong back. No sagging in the lower back means a higher Component Score.

Training Format

The workout takes place on a mat (floor work). It is concentrated work on the abdominals, back, glutes, and hips. We alternate dynamic twists with static tension to teach the body to be rigid and collected.

Methodology

Jump Connection: We don't just do fitness exercises; we mimic jump phases (grouping — checking) while lying on the floor. The body memorizes the sensation of being a "tight string."

Safety: Isolated muscle work without impact load on the joints.

For Everyone: Ideal for kids (posture formation) and adults (back strengthening and better balance on ice).

Necessary equipment

Mat: Mandatory (floor work).

Attire: Comfortable sportswear that allows movement. Socks or sneakers are fine.

Water: Stay hydrated.

Weights (Optional): For advanced athletes.

It is cheaper, more convenient, and helps you stay in shape all year round!
Yes! We offer an individual approach for skaters of absolutely any age and skill level. Our coaching staff works remotely with toddlers taking their first steps in sports, as well as adult figure skating fans. You can learn basic elements from scratch or perfect complex jumps in the comfort of your home, without wasting time on commuting.
Classes are held all year round (the time in the schedule is based on the Riga, Latvia time zone — GMT+3). To achieve optimal results, we recommend training 4–5 times a week, but the frequency depends on your goals. Both group online lessons and individual classes are available, and we will create a convenient schedule specifically for you.
